Dear Outdoorsman Triathlon Competitors: October 2, 2007 Last year it was torrential rains and downed powerlines. The year before that it was the infamous ¼ mile river debris field. So this year you know it had to be something spectacular – the lowest combinations of Lake level and River level on record! Yet everyone who started the race successfully completed the 32nd Annual Outdoorsman Triathlon. We owe a special thanks to the race sponsors. First Citizen Bank, Nantahala Village, Nantahala Outdoor Center, USA Raft, Rolling Thunder River Company, Tuckaseegee Outfitters, Carolina Outfitters, Unique Mountain Properties, Dodge Havens, Russ Callen, Nantahala River Gem Mine, and Paddle Inn Rafting Company. We offer an additional special “thank you” to our volunteers who helped with race course set up (Ed Sharp, Kirk Havens, Karla Havens, Jim Hall), Safety (Dale and Joey Swanson, Karla, Kirk, and Kade Havens, Scott Dillery, and Keith Havens), timing (Sue Havens, Carla Byrant, Sue Dillery). The Albion Canoe Club from Albion College in Michigan again won the coveted First Citizens Bank Collegiate Relay Challenge however; it was noted that Brevard was planning to launch a challenge for the title next year! We were once again honored with the presence of all three Race Founders (John Burton, Russ Callen, and Payson Kennedy) with Russ and Payson racing with Jim Hall on the Senior Mens Relay. Remember to send in your entries early for next year to insure a coveted “T-Shirt”. Also, reserve rooms now if you plan to stay at the Nantahala Village since they fill up early. The 33rd Annual Outdoorsman Triathlon will take place September 27-28, 2008. Visit the website for race results, stories from past events, and race photos (www.outdoorsmantriathlon.org).
